Review: South Hills Sidekicks - Uninvited - Leah Spiegel and Meg Summers - February 2012

Scrolling through my kindle and trying to clear my older books, I came across this older YA read. Opening it, I didn't know what it was going to be about but had an idea of a fun YA read. It ended up being more of a YA thriller series, similar to Pretty Little Liars but with a more light-hearted YA teen flick feel to it. This book starts with the new school year for best friends Alley, Val, Kirsten, Kayla, and Libby. This is going to be their year as Kirsten is planning a sweet 18-year-old birthday party and all is going well. There is even a new hottie at school who seems to have Alley's attention, no matter how hard she tries to fight it. I liked this book as Alley's best friend Val is clumsy AF and she makes me laugh. The book gets a bit more interesting when their friend Kirsten is discovered missing and the girls led by Val decide to investigate. While doing so, they find out there is an undercover officer in their school who is trying to uncover a drug dealer. What happens though when the girls get a little too close to stumbling over the truth and one of them finds themselves kidnapped as well? Can Alley work together with the newcomer to find her best friends Val and Kirsten? This first book was a good read and does make you wonder how well you know the people you hang out with and sleep with. I am now looking forward to reading the rest of this series and finding out what other mayhem the group of friends aka South Hills Sidekicks get up to.
