Review: Deep, Deep, Down - Lydia Lukidis - January 2023

I have to admit as I now have been at House of Science NZ for four months, I am starting to get a new appreciation for certain things like sustainability, climate change, global issues, and marine animals. These were topics prior that I wasn't exposed to, but now they are part of my everyday life as I think about how the books I read could be connected to our science resource kits. Deep, Deep, Down by Lydia Lukidis would work as a great companion to our kit Big Blue Future which talks about marine life and our oceans. Deep, Deep, Down takes readers on a journey as each page goes deeper and deeper down the Mariana Trench, stopping along the way and introducing readers to the types of creatures and plants that are found at the particular level. The illustrations by Juan Calle were also very beautiful and accompany the pages perfectly as along with the amazing pictures is the fantastic poetry from author Lydia Lukidis. Deep, Deep, Down is a great non-fiction read aimed at children aged 7-10 years old.

Review: Steel Princess - Rina Kent

Review: Steel Princess - Book #2 Royal Elite Series - Rina Kent - December 2019 At the end of Book #1, we were left on a cliffhanger of Elsa being pushed into the pool. At the beginning of book #2, she is saved by a newcomer to the school - Knox.  We can see some friendly flirting but nothing more going on between these two, but it riles up Aiden who still has this mindset of "if I can't have her, no-one can" especially since he is supposed to be engaged to Silver Queens. During Book #2 Elsa starts to recall some more memories and goes to Dr.Khan in hopes that he can open her Pandora's box and can restore her full memories of what happened before she was seven years old. We also catch a glimpse during this book of her past and why Aiden King's father blames her for his mother's death and why Aiden considered Elsa a ghost. Review: Dr. Strange Beard - Book #5 Winston Brothers Series - Penny Reid - July 2018 If there is a family that I love to read about it has been the Winston Brothers. This has to be one of my favorite book series out there as the brothers ; you can't help but fall in love with them all - with their funny quirks and their redneck comments. The other thing I love about The Winston Brothers is they are all genuinely nice guys ; they may look like they had a bad bone and they have reasons too - but they are the nicest around there, and they have the best intentions.
