Review: Everyone Here is Lying - Shari Lapena

Review: Everyone Here is Lying - Shari Lapena - July 2023

I'm in two minds with this book and how I feel about it as I had seen quite a few people raving about Shari Lapena's books on Instagram and so I figured as it did sound like a good read, to give it a go. The book starts with Dad William having an affair with Nora - a family who happens to live down the street from them. The family supposedly don't know each other which was the first red flag as isn't American streets supposed to know your neighbors as the book goes on every family in this street will become intertwined and definitely by the end of the story all because of one little girl will get to know one another. William's youngest daughter Avery is a handful and after he's had a bad day as Nora has ended their affair, he comes home to his daughter who just pushes one too many buttons and he lashes out. William leaves and then he returns home to police officers and his family in hysterics as Avery has gone missing. Did she run away or has someone kidnapped her? Soon Ryan who is Nora's oldest son ends up as one of the prime suspects, does Ryan even know who Avery is, or has someone else on the street put a plan in motion to get revenge on both William and Nora by attacking them where it hurts - their children? Or is it a whole different situation? This thriller was a connect-the-dots book and one that had a strong unreliable narrator theme to it. What happens when everyone has secrets and something to hide? What happens when the lies won't save you and someone has to start telling the truth? Find out in this family thriller, Everyone Here is Lying where you as the reader, decide who is telling the truth and who exactly is a liar, liar pants on fire.
