Review: The Last Dragon King - Leia Stone

Review: The Last Dragon King - Book #1 Kings of Avalier Series - Leia Stone - September 2022

Wow, years ago I read a lot of fantasy as I was a big Vampires/Werewolves type reader in my late teens to mid 20's and then like we do with most things after doing it for a while, I got burned out with fantasy books and I stopped as I just couldn't do it anymore. This year though I decided to give a couple of fantasy books a read and I have read three books - they all fall under the YA/NA umbrella and each of them has been amazing. Because of this one of my reading goals for 2024 is to finally read the Sarah J Maas series and a bit more fantasy books.  The Last Dragon King was like Fantasy meets The Selection. In The Last Dragon King, the King is looking for a new wife who is strong enough to bear his children and be of marrying age. He is gathering up women from all over the lands and in the small town of Cinder - that includes Arwen. She has lived her life thinking that she is human as her dad was only 1/4 dragon-blood. When her father died when she was nine years old, she took over the role of being a hunter and gatherer to provide for her family. She has always been "one of the guys", that is until she catches the attention of the King. What happens though when her mum reveals a dark secret? Arwen is more powerful and more dragon-blood than she ever realized and with her newfound knowledge, she must conceal it as if it ever got out - she would be killed as she is a threat to all dragons. When the King falls for Arwen, can he accept her when he discovers her true lineage or will she be thrown into the dungeon ready to be executed because of her birthright? Find out all this and more in Book#1 The Last Dragon King. I am now looking forward to continuing the series and hope the next three books are just as great. PS - this book also contained amazing artwork prints on a few of the pages sprinkled throughout the book which gave readers a visual image of what the Dragon King and Arwen looked like.  The Last Dragon King by Leia Stone, should be on all romantasy/fantasy readers lists for 2023/2024.
