Review: Skater Boy - Mary Catherine Gebhard
Review: Skater Boy - Book #1 Patchwork House Series - Mary Catherine Gebhard - April 2019
Years ago, when the main
female lead known as Tweetie was younger, she loved to skateboard with her dad
despite her home upbringing, she loved her father. Then one day she is with
some new friends, and her father is out looking for and crashes and is killed.
Tweetie, after some perseverance on her part, goes to live with the motley crew
that is known as the Patchwork boys. She stays for a while, and as she gets
older, she is the one girl who is off limits to everyone. She is like their
little sister. During this time though Tweetie falls hard and fast for a guy,
she only knows as Nate. She vanishes for a few years to find the boy she
loved, but with only a first name and voice, her journey comes up empty. So
Tweetie heads back to Patchwork House where she meets Flip. There is something
familiar about Flip, but Tweetie can't put her finger on it. During the
story, we have two POVs. We have Tweetie's from her past and present and Flip's
and discover Flip's true identity and that he isn't new to Patchwork House and
her as she thinks. I have to admit, her not recognizing him annoyed me as
she was not only her hero but her first kiss. The moment he spoke, she should
have been able to identify his voice. I was in two minds about this book as I
loved the whole Peter Pan - Lost boys feel of The Patchwork House, but Tweetie
and Flip's story and how it affected everyone started to grate me a bit. The
same with the way Flip treated his own family, it was like get some guts and
man up, you might have been wrong in the past, but your family freaking loves
you. If you love sport and skateboarding and an RH feel to the story with
a bit of edge, then check out Skater Boy by Mary Catherine Gebhard.
