Review: Wayward - Ashley Girardi

Wanting a new teen series to begin ? Into Witches and Magic ?

Wayward: The Witch Wars Saga (Volume 1)
Review: Wayward - Ashley Girardi- May 2011
Are you in the mood for a witchy read ? I have to say at first as far as covers go , this would have to be one of the most creepiest covers Ive seen in a long time with the coloured eyes staring in the grey background. In terms of supernatural and magic, Ive never really been into magicians of sorts but for some reason witches have always fascinated me , maybe it's because of the Salem Trials that Witches have this pretense of appearing more real to us all rather than Vampires which you mainly hear in legends. In Wayward , we meet Helena aka Hex which I thought was such an appropiate name as Hex's are like curses and it seems that Hex hasn't had the best of luck as we discover that she was born into one of the most magical families around and she happened to be born or so it seems with no magical powers. However, as we discover that Hex and her friend West like motorbike racing in their spare times for extra cash, that a demon/evil spirit is nearing as Hex smells the sulphuric aftertaste - could smell a bit like Rotorua which due to the geothermal stuff smells like rotten eggs LOL :). As the novel continues on we discover that Hex didn't really miss out on the powers and that she has some pretty dark magic living inside of her and if she doesn't learn to control it , people and herself included may end up dead. When tragedy strikes , Hex finds herself in the middle of a rivarly between magic families , Can Hex learn to control her powers or will she be left with the hard choice to save herself or her soul ?
