Wild Flowers

Frankie Valentine is a waitress drifting through life; in a menial job and in an on-off relationship with Greg.  When her friend Honey’s florist cancels at last minute, Honey invites Frankie to step into the breach.  Although not a trained florist, she rises to the occasion and spurred on by her success and her friend’s comments about not taking life seriously, seeks out a florist to turn her hand to train professionally.   Frankie is taken on by Mrs Orange; an elderly no nonsense florist with an in depth knowledge of the language of flowers and embarks upon her new career.  Frankie soon finds herself taking over the shop becoming a hit with brides due to her arrangements. Indeed, her success has a knock on effect on other areas of her life, she begins to embark on a fitness campaign and ditches the fair weather Craig.  Yet when she meets the enigmatic Lulubelle and her son Cosmo, Frankie’s life and outlook is changed forever.  Frankie comes to realise that there is more to life than mere materialism, brides’ flowers and financial gain and learns what is really important.

I really enjoyed this book.  There was a certain magicality in the tale and although parts of the book were sad, nevertheless, it was a very uplifting story.  Definitely one for a duvet day.
