Review: You Need to Chill - Juno Dawson

Review: You Need to Chill - Juno Dawson - May 2023

As we head into Pride Month, I decided to read this cute picture book "You Need to Chill" by Juno Dawson. In this book, we meet our young female character who at school, all her friends are asking her questions about her brother Bill as they haven't seen him around lately. The main female character blows off her friends and tries to downplay the situation by telling everyone that they need to just chill. Near the end, the readers of the book learn that Bill is now a transgender female named Lily. What I loved about this picture book was that the book wasn't OTT and didn't push the agenda but showed readers that being part of the LGBTQA+ community isn't a big deal and that just because someone identifies as the rainbow community doesn't mean they are any different than you and me. You Need to Chill by Juno Dawson is the perfect picture book for children aged 3-6 years old.
