Why I Started The Phantom Paragrapher.....

Why I Started The Phantom Paragrapher:

Dear Readers,

As many of you who are my facebook friends , may be aware . Yesterday I was targeted on my blog's email and called nasty names and then told my writing was bad etc. It really hurt me , but then I was overwhelmed by the support I had from other amazing authors and bloggers.
This incident prompted me to write this post on "Why I Started The Phantom Paragrapher" and what my site means to me and what my outcome is .

As many of you know I am a very fast reader and have a high number of books read status , which comes in handy for the constant updating of my book review blog. The blog originally started out three years ago, as a site for me to place my reviews as I loved writing and combine my two favourite passions of books and writing together.  Within six months, my blog's name and reputation had spread and I was inundated with such an overwhelming influx of reviews. For the first year, I took every single book I was sent and read /reviewed them.

I then found myself , losing my love of books and became overwhelmed with the Quantity of submissions. So What I did , was instigate a review policy - which clearly states that if I do not deem your book to recieve a "MORE THAN 3P's RATING" then I WILL NOT REVIEW IT.  The other thing is that as I have a philosophy and motto of "There are so many amazing books out there in the world, life is too short to read boring books". If I cannot finish your book for one reason or another - "I WILL NOT REVIEW IT" as I do not believe I am qualified to give a good review on a book that I could not finish.

In saying this, If you do send me a book to review - this frankly means that it may/may not be reviewed as I do not make promises that I will enjoy or love your book as I am not a LIAR. If I cannot read it because it bores me, then you will not get a review.

The other thing is that as a book reviewer, I do have a life and I do not get paid for the reviews I write. Which means as I am one of the main breadwinner's in my household I have to work 40 hours a week doing my day job and I am also studying full-time a Diploma in Child and Adolescent Psychology and I have a weekly Quiz Night I attend. So, if you send me a review and it doesn't get done immediately or read immediately - it is because I am not one of those book people who lock myself a way and are on my computer 24/7 days a week.

Starting this site now for me is a way for me to get out the word of Authors of books I love, one's I can't wait to tell Mr. Smith or your Average Joe reader. One's that sometimes people may never have heard off , those Indie Gems. And also since I am an Eclectic reader of sorts, I don't just review one genre . I am the type of reader who goes on what I am feeling that day.

So, Authors and Readers. If you have an issue with my Book Review Blog and how I run it as remember "Reviews are just the Opinions of the Reviewer" then instead of hurling abusive emails and reporting others and bagging on them. Suck it Up, Especially if you are a Debut Author who has written their first novel and expect people to read, review and promote you.

KINDNESS, REALLY DOES GO A LONG WAY .

Thank You For all who have Supported me On The Phantom Paragrapher -over the three years and those who continue to support my book review site. I Thank You a Million Red Swedish Fish .

  1. This is great, and kudos to you for saying it. I can't understand the entitled mentality that some have.
