Review: One Foot in the Grave by CC Hunter

One Foot in the Grave (The Mortician's Daughter, #1)

Review:  One Foot in the Grave - Book #1 The Mortician's Daughter - C.C Hunter - October 2017
This particular book when I was reading it, I felt a bit of deja vu as it has a storyline that has been used quite a bit before. Riley Smith has just moved to town with her dad who is the town's mortician. Riley though has a secret; she has a gift. She can see ghosts who have not yet passed over to the other side. These are the ghosts who have unfinished business on earth, a bit like Jennifer Love Hewitt's Ghost Whisperer. A few of the spirits in this book include a grandma who leads Riley to finding a new best friend Kayla to helping someone who supposedly fell down a cliff get to the truth of her death and as it turns out it was murder and if Riley isn't careful, she may find herself on the other side of reality. During this time, a young male appears to Riley, but something is a little off as he doesn't seem to be like the other ghosts who visit her yet no-one else can see him. As the book goes along, he becomes like a friend to Riley, and we see hints of maybe something a bit more. Think Jesse in Meg Cabot's Mediator series. However, what happens when she learns the truth about her mysterious guy and that he is closer to her than she realizes? Can Riley learn how to keep her life under wraps as well as start a new school? Find out in One Foot in the Grave. After the cliffhanger in this book, I am now looking forward to reading the next book.
