The Cottage on Lily Pond Lane-Part One: New beginnings

Mia Ward’s current life is far from a fairy tale: stuck in a dead-end accountancy job, she suddenly finds herself fired after “inappropriate behaviour” at an office party.  Added to that, her “rat” of a boyfriend then dumps her a week later for not being “spontaneous” enough.  Struggling to pay her rent and reeling from her break up, Mia’s luck incredibly changes as from out of the blue, she is contacted by a solicitor and discovers that she is a beneficiary in a will.  Mia is stunned to find out that she has inherited “Sunbeam Cottage,” in the Village of Pondale and ten thousand pounds, from a mysterious great aunt Matilda, a relative who was ostracised by her family and who is completely unknown to Mia. Under the terms of the legacy and to inherit it in its entirety, Mia must live in the cottage for one calendar year. A true city girl who is definitely on her uppers and with nothing left to lose, Mia decides to accept and accompanied by her best friend Ella and Ella’s handsome brother Garrick Swann, who Mia may have never resolved her feelings for, the three set out together to help Mia relocate to the property and embark on a “new beginning” and to try to find out about her enigmatic benefactor.  But as Mia settles into her new life it seems that not everyone is as thrilled about their latest resident and have their own agenda for her to move on…
I love Emily Harvale’s novels.  As Emily says she “always puts a piece of her heart in them” and it shows with her wonderfully vibrant narratives filled with characters who really endear themselves to you.  This book is beautifully plotted and there are plenty of twists and turns to keep the reader engaged and guessing. Well written , with a hint of mystery and plenty of humour, this is a light, entertaining read.  I highly recommend this author.
