Every now and again you find an author that isn't afraid to touch on the edgy topics of life, those that most writers run away from. Ellen Hopkins was one of those authors who could write it perfectly and now up on that list is Erin Lee. I have read several of Erin Lee's books each touching on a different topic. Freak turned out to be like a Book #2 or 1.5 depending on how you look at it. I have yet to read the first one, but Freak takes place a year after Sam killed herself. Sam, as we learn, was transgender, she was born Samuel but always thought she should have been a girl and changed her name to Samantha aka Sam. Though she never showed it, she was bullied which later led to her suicide. Now one year on, Sam's family are still going through things and the motions. We read as Sam's mom Kelly takes her first visit in a Pride parade and Morgan's school experiences. Sam watches her family from a place known as the afterlife. As Sam believed in reincarnation, the author has put this in Freak and Sam is reincarnated. Though she is on the other side of the coin now as her best friend Ryan when she is now Willow is going through what she did. Can Sam as Willow save Ryan from making the same choices as she did in her previous life? Find out in this quick and powerful read by Erin Lee. Review: Steel Princess - Book #2 Royal Elite Series - Rina Kent - December 2019 At the end of Book #1, we were left on a cliffhanger of Elsa being pushed into the pool. At the beginning of book #2, she is saved by a newcomer to the school - Knox.  We can see some friendly flirting but nothing more going on between these two, but it riles up Aiden who still has this mindset of "if I can't have her, no-one can" especially since he is supposed to be engaged to Silver Queens. During Book #2 Elsa starts to recall some more memories and goes to Dr.Khan in hopes that he can open her Pandora's box and can restore her full memories of what happened before she was seven years old. We also catch a glimpse during this book of her past and why Aiden King's father blames her for his mother's death and why Aiden considered Elsa a ghost. Review: Dr. Strange Beard - Book #5 Winston Brothers Series - Penny Reid - July 2018 If there is a family that I love to read about it has been the Winston Brothers. This has to be one of my favorite book series out there as the brothers ; you can't help but fall in love with them all - with their funny quirks and their redneck comments.
