Pray - John Prescott

                                                      Review : Pray - John Prescott - 2010

After reading John Prescott's collection of short stories I was glad to be given the opportunity to read his new novel Pray which is to be Book #1 of a new trilogy called "The Revelation Chronicles". As a reader and a quotes type person something that I enjoy in books is a pre-story quote or verse , something to set  you into the tone of the book or mood to say and in Pray - we had a bible verse and as somebody who was brought up in church I was able to recall the verse and of course it is from my favourite book of the bible -well one of them "Revelations" -the book that is said to be the most terrifying of the 66 books.
                                                       The verse reads:
Then I saw a mighty angel coming down from Heaven, surrounded by a cloud, with a rainbow over his head. His face shone like the sun, and his feet were like pillars of fire. And in his hand was a small scroll, which he had unrolled. He stood with his right foot on the sea and his left foot on the land. And he gave a great shout like the roar of a lion. And when he shouted, the seven thunders answered. When the seven thunders spoke, I was about to write. But a voice from Heaven called to me: "Keep secret what the seven thunders said. Do not write it down." –Revelation 10, verses 1-4
The second thing that I loved about this book besides the actual storyline was the amazing cover art , as I am a judge by the cover type girl ,no matter how hard I try not to be - the cover artwork on this book was amazing and if you look carefully at the main picture you will see that the number 6 appears three times - 666 - the number of the beast.
It is the year 2006 , America, Canada and Mexico have joined forces and are implanting each and everyone of the human beings with chips. Ex-army officer Trez decides against the chip and heads to the hills to be away from civilization - just him and what's left of Mother Nature. Soon of course , as we all know what happens when Armageddon hits - ever seen the movies A Blink of an Eye or the Left Behind series ? People start disappearing, planes drop from the sky and of course chaos erupts in today's society as people are confused by what is happening.
In the midst of all this chaos rises Samouel Gallo,  a Hollywood Celebrity whom steps up to bring order to a world in tatters, using all of the charm and power inherited from his father Samouel like Nickolai  is soon declared the leader of the world.

However, not all of the worlds population feels the same way, from a handful of the old world's leaders to handful of normal normal everyday folk, the battle lines are drawn for the destiny of the world. Some of these folk feel the urge to travel to Shaleford a small town hiding out in the Rocky Mountains. Chased by demons werewolves and the allies of Gallo, can these folks make a stand?
And of course, what's a book by John Prescott without a bit of horror as we read him chucking into the mix of things vampires , nephilims - half angel/half human , werewolves and of course the Antichrist into his new novel Pray.
As we expect from John, Pray is a fast-paced and action-packed story that one will fly through quickly and it will also keep you sitting on the edge of your seat in horror at parts.

*Please Note : Readers, though this book as some references to the Armageddon , it is not at all a Religious/Christian Fiction novel.
