We're Doing the Book Blogger Hop :)
It's Friday and that means its Book Blogger Hop Time and today's Question is :
“What keeps you reading beyond the first few pages of a book, and what makes you want to stop reading a book and put it back on the shelf?“
Answer:
I'm one of those readers, that if the book doesn't grab me within the first pages or at least the first chapter , then it's out -Im not going to bother finishing the novel and reading it as I live with the motto that "There are so many awesome books out there, so why bother reading the ones that are boring and aren't going to thrill you".
For me , the novel has to be A)Interesting , B)something I want to read and C) fast paced and can keep my attention .
P. SI won't be here for next week's Hop and you may notice during the end of the week a slightly less approach to publishing reviews as it's my BIRTHDAY on the 7th July and I will be away for three days :)
Good points! I like your tagline- sounds a lot like mine (educator and psychologist by day, indie book reviewer by night). Thanks for the follow- I'm your newest follower as well!

I try to put books down early if they don't hold my interest, but I feel so guilty not finishing one!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog.
Happy early birthday! :)
Hopping through. Happy almost birthday! A book has to be well paced for me to keep up with it.
ReplyDeleteMy Hop
That's a pretty good motto to go by. The thing is with me I feel as if it miiiiiight get better towards the end. My feelings suck sometimes lol. Anyways thanks for stopping by :) I hope you have a great birthday!
ReplyDeleteSometimes I stick with a book despite the first few pages, and it works out, but at other times I just stop reading, life is too short!

Love the tagline too - lol. Not a bad life either - librarian by day and book reviewer by night!!
ReplyDeleteIf a book doesn't grab me by about 1/3rd of the way in, it gets turfed onto a shelf to try again another day, tossed in the recycling bin or passed onto someone I think might enjoy it. If the writing is terrible, highly mediocre or the storyline is just not my thing, I'll stop after a couple of chapters. I used to feel guilty about not finishing a book - that was before I came to realize that life is too short to be worried about such things! Happy reading!

Thanks for stopping by my blog! I'm a new follower!
I'm slowly starting to come to that side of thinking. I use to make myself finish every book because I felt guilty if I didn't. Not anymore though. I usually try to at least read 1/3 of the book, sometimes half, before I give up, because I've found that some books really redeem themselves later on. You're right though, I don't want to waste my time reading a book I hate when there's a bunch of books on my shelf that I would love to read!
ReplyDeleteI agree! Why bother with something you know you don't like?
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by! :]
I used to give it until the first chapter and then if not I would put it down. Now I am reading alot quicker so if the first page doesn't grip me I don;t read any further I pick up antoher little treasure instead. I want to enjoy reading not feel like I have to struggle through a book making it feel like a chore.

Have a great birthday on the 7th! :)
ReplyDeleteI usually muddle through books, hoping it will get better. I should probably look at adopting your motto. :)
Hi, there! Thank you so much for commenting on my blog and following!! Now I'm following you back!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you -- why waste one's time with books that don't grab one's attention right away, when there are so many really fascinating ones out there to read? Sometimes, though, I have gone on reading a book I didn't like, just to give the author a chance. I've always regretted doing so, however. Then I could kick myself for having wasted time like that!
One particularly bad book I recently read all the way through to the end was "An Angel for Emily", which I recently reviewed on my blog. The author is Jude Deveraux. It was REALLY bad... It was my June book for "The Descent of the Angels Reading Challenge", so maybe that's why I read it all the way through. I'll never do this again! Lol.
By the way, I have to tell you that you have an exquisitely BEAUTIFUL blog!! LOVE it!! : )
Thanks for follow, following back.
ReplyDeleteHave a great birthday!
Mmm hmm. Slow pacing makes me wanna put the book down. Thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteHope you have a happy July birthday!
